A water-cooled unit, the Manitowoc Ice IDT0900W/D970 ice maker and bin can efficiently produce as much as 780 pounds of ice in an hour. It makes dice ice—large square cubes that melt slowly and an ice-sensing probe monitors the cubes to ensure each one measures 7/8 of an inch on all sides. After production, ice falls into the storage bin below where it stays frozen and awaits use. The bin door stands at a 53-degree angle for convenient ice access and automatically latches in an open position. To ensure ice tastes pure, this unit has a built-in holder that stores the scoop above the ice level, preventing germs on the frequently touched handle from contaminating the ice. Additionally, the scoop has guards over the knuckle and thumb, creating a barrier between the ice and hands.

If the Manitowoc Ice IDT0900W ice machine needs cleaning or maintenance, it notifies the user on the easyTouch® display. To clean the unit, users can swing open the front panel and remove several parts from the foodzone, including the sensing probe, curtain, water trough, and distribution tube. Reducing bacterial growth between cleanings, components in the foodzone are made with AlphaSan® protection.
